Two new editions to the team

Rachel Phillips is our new vet taking over from Kine. She joined Uplands Way in August after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College, London in July. She grew up in the London borough of Hillingdon, so studying in Camden seemed the obvious choice.

She has two old Labradors at home called Bonnie and Clyde, who she adores along with her Indian runner ducks! In her spare time she enjoys all sorts of sports, especially swimming.

Our second newest member of staff is Rosie Pulham, who is the new receptionist at our Diss branch. At twenty years old and engaged to a soldier she has been keeping busy “learning the ropes” at the surgery and has thoroughly enjoyed her first few weeks. She has a Cocker Spaniel called Jess, who is full of beans and likes to steal her shoes!

Puppies

Kate Bunn, one of our veterinary nurses, was very excited when her black Labrador, Purdey, gave birth to eight wonderful puppies at the beginning of the month. She has certainly got her hands full especially with her second child on the way!

From Norfolk to Shropshire

Our Saturday receptionist at the Diss branch, Emily Rout, has recently finished studying at Wymondham College and has passed all of her A levels. She is now preparing to go it alone at Harper Adams University in Shropshire; she will be doing a degree in agricultural business. She will still be coming home to Norfolk to work her Saturday mornings at Diss and to carry on showing her Holsteins.

Veterinary nurse training

In the last newsletter we informed you that two of our trainee veterinary nurses had just sat their end of year exams and were awaiting the results. Congratulations are in order for Kelly Edgar who has now qualified as a registered nurse and Ellie Slowther who has passed her first year exam and has started her second year. Hannah Shadwell has now started at the College of Animal Welfare in her first year of nurse training.

Norfolk Black turkey trail

Several of our staff are members of Norfolk Young Farmers. One of the competitions that the county has set all clubs this year is to raise 2 turkeys. They need to be raised ready for the Christmas table, and whichever club produces the biggest and best turkey will win! The turkeys have kindly been provided by James Graham of Peeles Norfolk Black Turkeys.

Laura Kenny has taken on this challenge for Wymondham Young Farmers so if there are any turkey farmers out there who can give her some helpful pointers please let her know!

Roxanne Chinchen now Welham

Congratulations to Roxanne, one of our vets, and her partner, Rob, on their marriage in July this year. She now looks forward to her honeymoon in the New Year.

Practice fun day success

Earlier on in the year in July we held a practice fun day and dog show at the Salvation Army in Diss. There were lots of fun games and also a novelty Dog Show. It was a fantastic day which everyone enjoyed and also raised money for 2 charities. The charities chosen were the East Anglian Air Ambulance and ARCA; a little know Spanish dogs home. Two of the dogs rescued by ARCA were at the Fun Day and their rescue stories were shared. A total of £350 was donated to the charities. We would like to thank everyone who attended.
