Prescriptions
Your vet here at Uplands Way Vets Ltd can supply you with any Prescription Only Medicines, Category V (POM-Vs) your pet may require. Alternatively, they can issue you with a written prescription for a fee of £5.64 so that you can obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgery or pharmacy. Please remember that a written prescription may be inappropriate if your pet is an inpatient or requires immediate treatment.
Veterinary Surgeons are only allowed to prescribe POM-Vs to animals under their care. It is a requirement laid down by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate to reassess all patients requiring repeat prescriptions at least every six months, to ensure they are on the correct type and dose of medication and that it is having no detrimental side effects. Uplands Way Vets offers free prescription checks to all of its clients, regardless of how they wish to obtain their medication.
If you would like to collect a repeat prescription, please order AT LEAST 24 hours in advance, so we can have the medication ready for you. It is your responsibility to ensure that your pet never runs out of the medication he or she needs, so by ordering up to a week in advance, we can help you to achieve this. We keep most medication in stock, but in certain circumstances we may need to order it directly from the wholesaler. You will be advised if this is the case and asked to give us more notice in order to get the drug in.
You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that might be presribed for your animal. The current prices for the ten POM-Vs most commonly prescribed or supplied from 1st October to 10th December 2009 were:
